Terrific Tydd St Mary take it to the Max in stylish ICA Sports victory

Max Burrell blasted four goals as Tydd St Mary continued their bright start to the ChromaSport PDFL Division Two season with a stylish 5-1 victory over ICA Sports Reserves on Saturday.

Both sides hit the woodwork before Tydd deservedly took the lead on 18 minutes when Nick Ainslie’s run and cross was volleyed home by the surging Burrell.

The Saints then began to dominate the game and doubled their lead on 40 minutes when Burrell ghosted to the edge of the box and smashed an unstoppable screamer into the top right hand corner.

Tydd weren’t done there as, just three minutes later, Tim Lowe found Burrell in the box – and he duly completed a first half hat-trick.

The Saints started the second half at a slower pace and keeper David Cooper was forced to make two smart saves.

Still, goal number four went to Tydd on 78 minutes as man-of-the-match Burrell pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired home his fourth of the game.

Tiago Nassunculo pulled one back for ICA from the penalty spot, but it was the hosts who had the last word. Super-sub Joe Johnson scored with his first touch of the game to seal a 5-1 success and keep Tydd fourth in the table.

  • The Saints were wearing their new Adidas kit on Saturday, which has been sponsored by John Keogh of the Five Bells pub in Tydd St Mary.
