Opener Jamie Taylor helped himself to a huge score of 185 in a dominant Long Sutton 2nd victory on Saturday.
Taylor’s monstrous innings came in Sutton’s whopping 229-run win over Sleaford 3rd in South Lincs and Border League Division Two – which fired them to the top of the table.
Having been put into bat, Sutton made their visitors toil in the heat with a sensational 370-4 in 45 overs.
Andrew Wright (25) started well alongside Taylor before being bowled by Max Lorimer (3-113), who was the pick of the Sleaford attack.
Jeremy Smith (30) and James Coote (38) were next to keep the big-hitting opener company, before Lorimer eventually got Taylor 15 runs shy of his double century. That didn’t stop Calvin Bird (38 not out) and Beth Milnes (11 not out) adding a few runs in the closing stages as Sutton posted an imperious target.
Sleaford never really had much chance of chasing the target down in reply, with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Craig Milnes (4-51) was the chief destroyer, while Beth Milnes (2-3), Andy Shaw (1-12) and Ethan English (1-46) also took wickets.
Skipper Neill Henderson (39) was the top scoring visitor, but Sleaford were eventually all out for 141.
- A captain’s knock from Phil Barnes steered Long Sutton 1st to a gutsy two-wicket win over hosts Welby in the SLBL Premier Division on Saturday.
Adam Wright shone with figures of 4-36 as Sutton limited their opponents to 150-9 in their 45 overs, before a battling 63 not out from Barnes hauled Sutton to 151-8 in reply.
Bowling first, Barry Stanway (2-28), Will Naylor (2-41) and Dan Oldfield (1-39) also took wickets for Sutton.
The vast majority of Welby’s runs came from Sharath Upadhya (38), Vidit Matta (34) and skipper Mark Dale (24) – but the target of 151 always looked gettable.
Wright (24) got Sutton’s innings off to a decent start, but wickets soon fell around him with Chris Booth (9), Dan Oldfield (1) and Aaron John (9) all going cheaply.
However, Barnes produced a defiant half-century to help his side get over the line with two wickets and 22 balls to spare. Naylor (2 not out) was there with him at the end.
- Moulton Harrox made it two wins from three games in South Lincs and Border League Division One with a nine-wicket success at Skegness 2nd.
Fine figures from Simon Juckes (4-2) and Alex Baker (3-22) helped limit the hosts to 99-9 from their 45 overs, with Jimmy Jacobs (28 not out) top scoring.
That target proved no problem for Harrox, as Jack Barnett (44 not out), Karl Hibbert (24) and Clive Bayston (18 not out) taking the score to 100-1 in just 21 overs.
- Pinchbeck were also in winning form in SLBL Division Two on Sunday.
Mike Knight (4-31), Andrew Beeston (3-12) and James Langford (2-11) shone as they bowled out hosts Belton Park 2nd for 90, before Mark Ramsden (35 not out) and Danny Jackson (15) steered them to 91-3 in reply.
