Tench aplenty as Simmonds seals victory at Tydd Gote Angling Club’s latest meet

The tench continue to feed on the North Level at Main Road with Dave Simmonds attracting three good fish from his peg five to comfortably win Tydd Gote Angling Club’s Wednesday Open.

In an area known for the tench, Simmonds set out his stall for a bonus fish by feeding a worm, caster and maggot line at 11m and was rewarded after about two hours with his first fish.

Simmonds persevered on this line and with careful topping up took another two tench in the last hour to go with a handful of bits from his roach line for his 11lb 11oz total.

With the drain well up and following a couple of sharp frosts, the silvers were less inclined to feed, but small fish expert John Taylor found enough of them on his short pole line and waggler to secure second place with a level 8lb.

Ian Benton was just above the bridge and took a net of rudd for 5lb 12oz and third place with Steve Fox just a couple of fish behind with 5lb 9oz from the concrete.

The Sunday Club Match was cancelled due to the adverse weather.
