Table tennis round-up: Newside blow Hurricanes away, JDM also on-song

A top turnout for the latest round of Spalding and District Table Tennis League fixtures saw a couple of sides put in sensational showings.

The first on-song side were Newside, who played their league match against Hurricane Brothers.

Despite some of the games going to four ends, Hurricane Brothers couldn’t convert enough points, leaving Newside to claim a 5-0 whitewash.

Next up, Nets and Edges played JDM’s Ashberry and T Chesworth. JDM proved to be too strong for their opponents, taking the match by a big 5-0 margin.

The two teams then saw each other again in the semi-final of the Moulton Shield Cup.

Once again, JDM took the win – allowing them to progress through into the final.

Their opposition is yet to be decided with a round one match involving South Holland and Jokers yet to be completed.

Meanwhile, South Holland defeated Rusty Nails 4-1. Rusty Nails’ Hayter took his game against White to five ends, but gained the point at the end of it.

Elsewhere, TNC’s Louis played both of his singles against Outsiders. Louis took the point against Beadle in three ends, while Wilkinson took the next point for Outsiders. However, Louis fought to take an end.

Nets and Edges’ Sawyer also caught up with his game against Outsiders’ Davey.

Sawyer fought hard and just missed out on the game, taking it to five ends.

That then finished the match with Nets and Edges winning 4-1.

There was also time for South Holland to catch up on part of their match against JDM, which was started on October 15.

Gilbert played his single game against Ashberry, who proved to be too strong and took the points in three ends.

Gilbert and White also played their doubles against the duo of J Chesworth and Ashberry. Both teams had some good ends, taking it to five.

However in the end JDM took the point to leave themselves sitting pretty at 4-0 up with one game left to be played.
