Table tennis round-up: Leaders South Holland extend their advantage at summit

South Holland extended their lead at the top of Spalding and District Table Tennis League Division One with three points taken against Underdogs.

Jean White and John Gilbert won a singles each for the leaders, before teaming up for the doubles.

Moulton SE, who were second, had their match postponed so now trail by seven.

JDM and Nets and Edges brought forward their match from later this month with both teams being a player short then and the former took full advantage winning all four games played in straight ends.

That moves them into second spot, one ahead of Moulton.

The Edgers had a busy night again, earlier playing their scheduled fixture against Jokers.

Wesley Roper rapidly took the first singles in straight ends before Ionel Dumitrache also won in three, but in a much tighter game.

Dumitrache paired with Guntars Briedes for the doubles and the Edgers surprised themselves by moving into a 2-end lead.

Jokers fought back to level but Edgers stuck to their guns and held out to take the fifth 14-12 and a first league doubles win of the season.

Roper won his other singles and then Reece Kerry took the final singles to give Jokers a 3-2 win.

With Underdogs completing their delayed match with Outsiders for a 4-1 win the latter head Edgers at the foot of the table on wins.

In Division Two, Rusty Nails defeated Assassins 5-0 to move within five of the top with a match in hand.

Having said that, it was quite a match with every game going to four ends and four deuces along the way.
