Suspected shoplifter dies after arrest at Spalding store

A man has died after he was detained under suspicion of theft from Sainsbury’s in Spalding.

On Tuesday, January 8, police were called to Sainsbury’s at Holland Market to assist with the man who had been detained.

After he was arrested, police said it was clear he was unwell and he was given first aid by officers and shop staff.

The air ambulance took the man to Lincoln County Hospital, where he died.

A police spokesman said: “An investigation has been commenced into the circumstances of the death, and enquiries are continuing.

“Additionally the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct ( I.O.P.C) who are conducting an independent investigation.”
