Surface dressing on roads across district

Motorists face delays and speed restrictions for the next couple of weeks as a £9m countywide road surface dressing programme comes to South Holland.

The works are part of an annual programme carried out by Lincolnshire County Council.

A council spokesman said: “Each location will take around one to two days to complete. The exact dates and timings for each location will depend upon weather conditions.

“To ensure the safety of the workforce, appropriate forms of traffic management will need to be used at each site. This means delays are likely and people are advised to use alternative routes where possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Following the works a 20mph speed limit will be in place for seven days.

Surface dressing offers a quick and cost-effective way of maintaining roads, Lincolnshire County Council’s website says. It involves chippings being rolled into a layer of hot bitumen applied to the road.

It improves skid resistance, waterproofs and protects the road against winter damage that causes potholes, extends the life of the carriageway surface by up to ten years, costs one fifth of the price of resurfacing and prevents more expensive work being needed later on.

This week, routes likely to be affected are: Church Lane, Donington; B1397 Belchmire Lane/Station Road, Gosberton; Wargate Way, Gosberton; Hedgefield Hurn, Gosberton; A152 Spalding Road, Gosberton; Parson Drove West, Pinchbeck; Cheal Lane, Pinchbeck; Cross Lane, Pinchbeck; Moneybridge Lane, Pinchbeck; Church Street, Pinchbeck; Wood Lane, Quadring Eaudyke; South Drove, Quadring; Cheal Road, Surfleet; A152 Surfleet (from A16 to B1395).

Scheduled for between Wednesday (July 4) and Tuesday, July 10, are the following Spalding roads: The Hayfields, Clover Lane, including Campion Close and Lucerne Close; Angelica Drive; Farthingales/Brendon Walk/Mendip Close; Lilburn Drive, including The Grove; Daniels Gate; Chaldean Way; Daniels Reach; Baxter Gardens; Fairview Way; Vernatts Green; Fairview Close; St Anne’s Way/St Anne’s Close: Aalsmeer Rise, including Haarlem Court, Limburg Drive, Breda Court and Heren Place; B1172 – Little London/Spalding Common; Willow Walk/Osier Road/Rutland Close.

lSome of Spalding’s paths have been identified for replacement works between August and January. They are: Balmoral Avenue, Stonegate, Queen’s Road, Bowditch Road, Johnson Avenue, Oak Court and Chaucers Way.
