Supporting those living around us

Everybody needs good neighbours, and there’s some amazing ones in South Holland.

The Caring Neighbour Award looks for someone who has provided an outstanding service in the community.

They don’t just give a brief smile but go out of their way to do more to help others.

They’re like last year’s Pride of South Holland Caring Neighbour Bert Wright who gives his time to help others in Whaplode.

As well as carrying out a number of roles for the village hall and church, he also helps around the village where he can.

The Caring Neighbour Award is sponsored by councillors Glynis Scalese and Peter Coupland.
Glynis sponsored this award last year and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with a very high standad of entrants.

She said: “I am delighted to be involved once again with the Pride Awards and this very important category.

“So many people need help with the simple tasks in life, even if it’s just a chat and a cup of tea; it makes all the difference to someone who probably will not see others for the rest of the day.

“The event brings so many people together who have achieved some amazing things and to see them get recognition for their efforts and time means so much.”

Peter added: “I enjoy seeing the look on the people’s faces when attending this event, there’s a great satisfaction without expecting anything in return.

“We always hear the bad things, I believe this event proves there are many good people in South Holland and this category shows that.

“Since COVID many communities have come together and relationships remained strong.”
Glynis and Peter would like to hear from you.

They are waiting to read your nominations and looking forward to hearing all the good work that people in the community do, to care and be part of their neighbourhood and be kind to each other.

The Pride of South Holland Awards are back to celebrate all that is good in the district.
On Sunday, March 5, 2023, the organiser, Jan Whitbourn will be handing out recognition to many of those who make the district what it is.
But we need to know who those people are.
There’s a host of categories for you to send your nominations to Jan on 07779 895388, email [email protected] or email [email protected]
Send us as much information about your nominees as you can.
The more we know about their good work in the community the more likely they are to receive a nomination or even win one of the prestigious awards.

The categories are:
* Caring Neighbour (sponsored by Couns Glynnis Scalese and Peter Coupland).
* Service with a Smile (sponsored by Coun Elizabeth Sneath).
* The Young Achiever Award (sponsored by Molsom Optometrists).
* Senior Citizen (sponsored by Calthrops).
