Sunday best! Cole proud as Tigers are crowned county kings at Sincil Bank

Unstoppable Holbeach United Sunday lifted the Lincs FA Sunday Cup by beating The Notts FC 3-1 at Sincil Bank at the weekend.

The Tigers are only the second team from the Spalding Sunday League to win the county competition, following in the footsteps of Pinchbeck United Sunday two years ago.

It’s now an amazing 22 wins from as many games and 211 goals for Tim Cole and Josh Ford’s side since they formed in the summer – and they are on-track for a treble.

Jonny Allen nodded the Sunday Tigers into an 18th-minute lead against the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District League leaders after Spencer Tinkler had flicked on a corner into his path.

It could have been more than 1-0 by the break, with Jon Fairweather and co-player/boss Ford seeing efforts saved and winger Billy Smith hitting the near post direct from a free kick.

However, Jack Smith (52) doubled the lead with a low drive early in the second period following a pass from frontman Ford.

It was almost 3-0 when Billy Smith cracked the woodwork once again, but The Notts set-up a grandstand finish when Reece Newell headed home 20 minutes from time.

The comeback never materialised though as, after Chris Gordon was sent off for a horrible late lunge on Jonny Clay in the closing stages, Macauley Grimwood fired home the clincher after rounding the keeper in the final minute.

Joint chief Cole said: “It’s an absolutely fantastic feeling to win the Lincs Cup and say we are the champions.

“It was definitely one of those days you just want to keep repeating, to do it all over again.

“The lads were all fantastic, each and everyone of them gave their all and that really came through in our performance.

“The fans were all amazing too, we could definitely hear them getting behind us the whole game – thanks to all of them for making the journey.

“It’s safe to say the celebrations went on all day and night. Josh and I could not be more proud of what the team has achieved and can’t praise them all highly enough.

“What makes it even better is how good a friends we all are.

“But now it’s back to business this weekend with the League Cup final and then to hopefully wrap up the league for the treble.”

Holbeach can complete the second part of their treble in the League KO Cup final at The Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field this weekend. They take on league leaders Sutton Bridge (10.30am).

Sunday Tigers: Drury, Clay, Wilson, Warfield, A Jackson, Jack Smith (Grimwood 74), Tinkler (Stevens 46), Fairweather, B Smith, Allen, Ford. Not used: Dickinson, John Smith, Barnes.
