Summer holiday activities at the South Holland Centre

The South Holland Centre is Spalding has a packed summer holiday schedule, starting this month.

A Family Arts and Crafts morning for two to 11-year-olds takes place on Monday, August 20, with a space theme.

Sessions run from 10am to noon so drop-in or stay for the whole two hours.

Sessions cost £6 per child, £3 for siblings and there’s no charge for accompanying adults.

The Centre’s hugely popular Top of the Poppets family disco for under 7s has its first ever summer holiday date tomorrow (Friday) at 11am.

It promises fun music, games and a groovy dance leader.

Tickets cost £3.50 per child, with accompanying adults and babes in arms free. Early booking advised.

Act II Theatre Company will be running two fun-filled drama days for children aged 4 to 7. These will be packed with songs and games based around an exciting theme.

Wands and broomsticks at the ready for a Witches and Wizards drama day today (Thursday) then recreate a classic Grimm’s fairy-tale on Thursday, August 30 with the Elves and the Shoemaker drama day.

Both workshops start at 10am and end with a short performance at 3pm. They cost £17 per child or £32 for two siblings.

Older children can spend a whole week under the guidance of Act II with one of two Youth Theatre Weeks for seven to 14-year-olds.

These packed weeks offer the chance for youngsters to have fun and make new friends while enhancing their drama skills as they work towards a final performance.

First up from Monday, August 6 to Friday, August 10 is Wind in the Willows, with Mr Toad, Rat, Mole and Badger all making an appearance.

Then from the week starting Monday, August 13, lucky participants will be working on an abridged version of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical.

This special shortened version of the smash-hit show – Matilda in 20 minutes – will feature five of the original songs from Tim Minchin’s score and all the gruesome Roald Dahl characters. Both youth theatre weeks run from 10am to 4pm daily, with a 5.30pm performance on the Friday which is open to friends and family of participants only.

The cost for the week is £65 per child or £115 for two siblings.

On Thursday, August 2 the South Holland Centre will put on a Family Circus Day at Ayscoughfee Gardens from noon until 6.30pm.

There will be drop-in circus skills workshops with the Earthbound Misfits, Transported and Arts NK plus circus themed crafts inside the museum. Then at 2pm and 5.30pm the daredevil circus troupe Race Horse Company will be performing their jaw-dropping bonkers but brilliant show Motosikai.

Everyone is welcome to this event, with a “pay what you want” fee.

Finally fans of the big screen will be spoilt for choice with a huge range of family blockbusters on offer including Incredibles 2 (PG), Sherlock Gnomes (U), Hotel Transylvania 3, Maya the Bee 2 (U) and many more.

For families with additional needs some special accessible screenings including relaxed and subtitled are available on selected films.
