Stepping back in time to the cold war in Holbeach

Visitors had the chance to step back into the Cold War last week.

The town’s former Royal Observer Corps bunker was opened-up to the public by owners Heritage Lincolnshire.

Former members of the corps were on duty with Heritage Lincolnshire personnel to take visitors back in time.

The bunker was part of a chain around the country ready to plot nuclear bombs and relay information back to the government. Staff would also have identified safe areas for survivors.

The posts contained equipment including meters to measure radioactivity.

Down the hatch: the way in and out of the shelter.
