A new event in the Spalding calendar is promising to be a whole sackful of Christmas fun while raising money for charity.
The Chairman’s Santa Fun Run is taking place on Sunday, December 8 and will involve a 4.5k double loop around the town centre.
The idea is from South Holland District Council chairman Andrew Woolf who, in his two year stint in the role, is raising money for both the Spalding branch of Mencap and Blood Cancer UK.
He’s worked with the Halmer Harriers Running Club on the event which will leave the Castle Sports Complex at 9.30am.
Coun Woolf said that the emphasis would very much be on fun with hopefully suitably festively dressed runners or walkers either doing the full 4.5k course which twice loops through Spalding town centre, just one of the loops, or just come to soak up the atmosphere in the town.
“Anybody can enter,” he said. “The entry fee is £5 and you can do all or some of the course at your own speed.
“The only stipulation is under 16s have to be accompanied by an adult.
“You can even just pop down to hopefully see around 200 people dressed festively running through Spalding.
“There will be cups of tea and medals for all who take part.
“I’ve had fantastic support from the Halmer Harriers and Crusader Traffic Management who have been very kind in sponsoring it and helping with the roads.
“I’m now just really looking forward to it.
“It’s going to be a fantastic way to get into the Christmas spirit.”
Pinchbeck Road, The Crescent, Double Street, Albion Street and West Elloe Avenue will be among the roads that will need to close for part of the duration of the event.
