St Nicolas Players get into the spirit

Halloween’s not over yet, there’s plenty of spooky theatre at the Spalding Services and Social Club from tonight (Thursday) through to Saturday.

That’s because the St Nicolas Players are putting on their latest production Spirit Level at the High Street venue.

The supernatural comedy, written by Pam Valentine, sees a ghostly married couple playing merry hell with the young couple who have moved into their old home.

But who’s scarier, the ghost trying to lend a hand or the bride’s interfering mother-in-law who thinks her daughter could do better?

It’s being directed by Martin Tyrrell.

He said: “Regulars at Spalding Services and Social Club were bemused on Sunday afternoon, as St Nicolas Players gradually transformed their function hall, which had held a successful 90s disco the night before, into the cosy living room of a small country cottage.

“A cottage that just happened to be haunted by the ghosts of its previous occupants!”

Spirit Level opens its doors tonight (Thursday) at 7pm until Saturday (November 6), welcoming audiences into the world of Jack and Susie Cameron, the recently deceased couple who are determined to ensure peace and quiet in their country hideaway, even though they can’t live there anymore!

Martin added: “This heart-warming spooky comedy is perfect for that period between Halloween and Christmas, and is open to all, members and non-members alike.

“Come along to Spalding Social and Services Club High Street in Spalding, for a pre-Christmas treat, and let St Nicolas Players entertain you!”

Tickets are £9 (£7.50 concessions) and are available from behind the bar at the club, from Bookmark in The Crescent, or by telephoning 01775 711744.

Instead of the normal theatre rows, seats are arranged ‘cabaret-style’, in groups of six around a small table, and guests are welcome to bring snacks and nibbles.

A full bar will be open at the interval for liquid refreshments.

Performances start at 7.30pm. For more information contact Martin on 07925 400303.
