Spree of second places seal glory for Gail in Welland Yacht Club’s Carl Bilbie Pursuit Trophy

Consistency proved key for Gail Follington on Sunday as three second places were enough to give her overall glory at Welland Yacht Club’s Carl Bilbie Pursuit Trophy.

The event was well attended, with 11 boats taking part in three races – including four from the junior section.

The trophy used personal handicaps to allocate each boat’s start time, with the theory being that at the end of the hour-long race time all boats should be in a similar location on the course.

Such was the diversity of boat class entered that the fastest boat left just over 18 minutes after the first boat.

Conditions were slightly windier than forecast, with those competing having odd gusts to deal with.

Young gun Emma Agar enjoyed two wins from the three races, with Brian Cobb the other race victor.

But Follington’s solid showing won the day.

Race two (10 boats) – 1st Brian Cobb (+6); 2nd Gail Follington (+2); 3rd Mark Holland (+2); 4th Tom Bell (+4).

Race three (7 boats) – 1st Emma Agar (0); 2nd Gail Follington (+1); 3rd Paul Burton (+4); 4th Brian Cobb (+1).
