Spot-on Holbeach United under-14 Yellow go unbeaten at Hungate competition

By JAMES CLARK

It was a successful weekend for Holbeach United under-14 Yellow as they emerged victorious at the Hungate Tournament.

The Tigers entered the tournament with a seven-man squad, and they soon made their mark after dominating the group stage – scoring five, conceding two and going unbeaten.

This saw the Tigers advance into the semi-finals against friendly foes, Holbeach Black.

The two teams battled hard and regulation time could not split them, with Holbeach winning 3-1 after extra time.

The final was played against a strong Netherton side, but Holbeach fought well and after a goalless match, the game went to penalties.

Both teams converted penalty after penalty, but, Netherton’s eighth effort was superbly saved by Kieran Ferguson in goal.

That allowed Adam Day to step up score the winner for the Tigers with a cool spot-kick.
