Ace stopper Drury agrees Holbeach United switch

Holbeach United look set to have fierce competition for the number one jersey next season after snapping up talented goalkeeper Ricky Drury.

The former Boston United and Boston Town stopper won the quadruple with Spalding Sunday League side Pinchbeck United Sunday last season – and they are bossed by Tigers number two Tom Roberts. The pair agreed terms on a deal to bring Drury to Carter’s Park on Friday.

With top stopper Nick Conroy also set to be invited back for pre-season and Roberts himself a well-regarded keeper, Holbeach look to have an embarrassment of riches in a key position.

Roberts admits that Drury ticks all of the boxes for himself and Tigers boss Darren Jarvis – and is delighted to have secured his signature.

“Ricky is a top keeper,” said the Tigers assistant boss. “He’s also a local lad – something we value a lot.

“He’s been great for me at Pinchbeck Sunday and after some very positive talks, I’m very happy to have him on-board.

“Not only is Ricky a very, very good shot-stopper, but his distribution in second-to-none. He’ll be a really good signing for us.

“Not all keepers are technically good, but Ricky is good enough to play outfield too. He’s different class.”

Having already signed Jonny Clay and retained the services of Andrew Tidswell, Gary King and Stacy Cartwright, it’s shaping up to be a very positive summer for the Tigers ahead of the new UCL Premier Division season.
