Spalding United now ten unbeaten after impressive Chasetown draw

Spalding United saw their lead at the top of Evo-Stik NPL Division One South cut to two points after drawing 1-1 at Chasetown on Saturday, while Holbeach United lost their unbeaten record in ChromaSport UCL Premier Division following a 2-1 home defeat to Desborough Town.

The Tulips made the best possible start at Chasetown, with top scorer Bradley Wells opening the scoring very early on.

They held that lead up until the early part of the second period, when Mitch Piggon levelled for the hosts.

The draw, which represents another fine result, extends Spalding’s unbeaten league run to ten games in their first season under boss Dave Frecklington.

Holbeach, meanwhile, led 1-0 at half time against fellow high-fliers Desborough after Jack Smith nodded home Jordan Thomas’ expert cross.

However, Jake Bettles levelled following a corner on 63 minutes – then a dangerous cross from John Dean was turned home for an own goal by defender Nick Jackson four minutes from time.

The loss leaves Holbeach fourth, sixth points behind leaders Peterborough Sports. They host next Yaxley on Wednesday night (7.45pm).

Also losing an unbeaten record were ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division leaders Moulton Harrox, who were handed a 4-1 home reverse by Peterborough Sports Reserves.

Hot-shot Marcus Parry had put Nigel Steadman’s charges ahead, but they were pegged back to 1-1 at half-time before shipping three in the second half.

Harrox do, however, stay top of the tree – but they only lead Netherton United on goal difference.

Pinchbeck United are eight points back in seventh after beating Stamford Lions 4-2, but they’ve got two games in hand.

Ollie Maltby (2), Tom Panton and Brad Murrell bagged for Ian Dunn’s side at Knight Street.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Holbeach United Reserves lost 2-0 at Sawtry and Crowland Town suffered a 6-1 home reverse against Netherton.
