Spalding Triathlon Club’s Richard Young, Julian Harriott and Callum McPartlin joined more than 160 other athletes for the first ever Tallington Lakes triathlon.
There were two distances for athletes to choose from – sprint and Olympic. The race stated with an open water swim in a lake, while the bike took the triathletes round country before the race ended with a road run.
McPartlin completed the Olympic distance – consisting of a 1,500m swim, 46km cycle and 10km run – and came first in the under-23 age group.
His time of 2.27.38hrs made him ninth overall.
Using the event as part of his training in the run up to the Word Series Triathlon in August, where he will be representing Great Britain, McPartlin was actually competing in his first Olympic distance triathlon.
He said: “It was a great venue for a triathlon and they did well for their first one. I found the run very challenging, but that might be due to it being my first 10k off the bike.”
Spalding’s Young (1.33.37hrs) and Harriott (1.32.25hrs) both completed the sprint distance triathlon, which consisted of a 750m swim, a 24km bike and a 5km run.
