Spalding Town walking wounded at Lindum

Injury and player unavailability have left Spalding Town with a selection headache ahead of this Saturday’s Lincs ECB Premier League trip to Lincoln Lindum (noon).

Sri Lanka star Wamanga Perera pulled up lame in last Saturday’s losing draw at Market Deeping (report page 38), while Charlie Kearns and Chris Dring are both away.

That leaves skipper Rob Ambrose short of bowling options, so Tom Dale and 16-year-old James Hook are expected to make the step up to the first team.

Despite the setback, Ambrose is hopeful that Town can complete a league double over a side 15 points ahead of them in the standings.

He said: “Lindum are usually very strong at home and often improve in the second half of the season.

“They are capable of beating the big boys and also have a loss in them, so we have to play to win.

“We’ve struggled a bit of late. It seems we bowl well and bat badly, or vice versa. We just can’t put the two together at the same time.

“We’ve probably already done enough to stay in this league, so the aim now is to finish as high as we can – there are plenty of games left.

“With the side we have we should be able to compete with anybody, we just need to get our act together.”
