Spalding 1st team captain Rob Ambrose admits that his team are in need of a lucky break to get their first win of the season.
It comes in light of a fifth-straight defeat in the Lincs ECB Premier Division.
Town have handed very comfortable first wins of the season to Lincoln Lindum and Grantham over the last two weekends, and travel to mid-table Sleaford on Saturday looking to break their own duck.
The heaviness of the 257-run home defeat to Grantham came as a shock, but Ambrose insists the result cannot be something to dwell upon for too long.
He said: “You can be down in the dumps, but it’s not going to help.
“If we can get that first win under our belts it’ll do us the world of good. It might even come when we’re not necessarily expecting it – we just need a bit of luck.”
He added: “We’ve got good players in the team and matchwinners among them.”
Town’s early form mirrors that of neighbours Spalding RFC, who had a torrid time last season before grabbing their only win on the final day.
Ambrose is not even close to contemplating anything similar at this stage, but knows the key to a maiden success must quickly be found.
“We just don’t seem to be clicking as a team at the moment. What that’s down to I don’t know,” he said.
“Off the field and in the dressing room, the spirit is there, but it’s not happening on the field for us.
“I can’t fault the effort of the lads, but we’re not bowling well and we’re not fielding well.
“It’s hard going at times like this, but we’ve just got to pull together.”
What was also worrying for the skipper was the fact Saturday’s side was his strongest. For the first time this season there were no less experienced players.
“I went for that experience, thinking it was a big one for us,” he said.
“You can say we’re having no luck, but things are not going our way. One week we’ll win the toss, put ourselves in and not put on enough and then on Saturday, I let them have a bat and we can’t even keep them down to a target that’s really achievable.
“I’m desperately in need of another opening bowler.
“It’s two weeks until [pace bowler] Henry Charlton is available and he’ll then be with us for the season.
“Those two weeks can’t pass quickly enough, if I’m honest.”
