This Saturday sees Spalding RFC welcome local rivals Wisbech to the Memorial Field for a pre-season clash (3pm).
Town’s new skipper Dan Adams is hopeful that both fans and potential new players will turn out and get behind his side as they step-up their preparations for the new
Midlands Three East (North) season, which gets underway on September 8.
Adams said: “This match will be keenly contested with places up for grabs with the season kicking off in early September.
“Any potential local players are more than welcome to turn up and meet me, as besides our first team squad, we also have a good social second team who are always keen to boast numbers.”
Last Thursday, Spalding’s players travelled over to Boston for their first full training game organised by the coaches from both clubs and the RFU.
On the evening, players were split into two groups – with the forwards concentrating on scrummaging with full engagement.
The club were pleased to see Ash Anker return from a long-term injury, while Tim Waltham also featured. Young Harry Cole was also given the opportunity of experimenting in the front row.
The second part of the session involved both squads competing at the lineout.
Meanwhile, the backs were doing plenty of running to practice both their attacking moves and defensive lines.
Looking fit and keen were some of the experienced players, who are likely to feature this season. That included Ben Williamson and Adam McHugh, while Gav Sharman was showing his sheer pace along with newcomer Harvey Royle.
The younger players were also out to impress, including Willis Ingleby, Olly Waine and Connal Mason.
Spalding skipper Adams was really impressed with the standard of fitness by his group of players and the level of organisation and commitment, while coach George Reid was delighted with the very welcoming reception by Boston Rugby Club.
