Spalding reflect on their stunning season at AGM

Spalding Hockey Club reflected on another extremely successful season season at their annual meeting on Monday night.

The 2014/15 campaign saw the leading men and women both crowned Lincolnshire champions, while both also won their respective league titles to earn promotion to a level they’ve never previously played at.

Spalding were also named Lincolnshire Sports Club of the Year for 2014 at a ceremony at the Lincolnshire Showground.

Having achieved back-to-back promotions, Josh Rowbottom was once again elected as men’s 1st team captain, with experienced goalkeeper Becky Howitt stepping up to lead the ladies’ 1st team.

Rob Callaby has moved up from vice captain and will lead the men’s 2nd team and Sam Maltby, who led the ladies’ 3rd development team to great success in the second half of the season, has stepped up to lead the ladies’ 2nd.

Experienced campaigners Steve Rogers and Martyn Pocklington will again be in charge of the men’s 3rd and 4th teams respectively, while captains for the ladies’ 3rd and men’s 5th sides are still to be confirmed.

The top men’s team will once again compete in the East Indoor Premier League, while Sam Howitt will be in charge of the club’s mixed team.

  • Spalding Hockey Club plan to get their popular ‘Spring Sixes’ hockey sessions – held at their Glen Park base in Surfleet – started on Wednesday (7pm-8.30pm). This is open to men and ladies of league playing age.

The sessions will run every Wednesday from then on. For further information email Fred Morris at
