Spalding Market Place cafe to close

A town centre cafe raising money for charity is to close permanently.

The St Barnabas Hospice cafe was set up in Spalding Market Place in 2017 and became popular with the community.

But it is no longer profitable and will not re-open. The shop will reman open.

“It is with regret that we are to close the cafe in Spalding as part of a restructuring process for all of our retail outlets,” said Caroline Peach, head of retail at St Barnabas.

“The cafe has been a great meeting point for the community and has built up a good customer base, but ultimately isn’t a profitable operation for the hospice,” she added.

St Barnabas Hospice is an independent charity providing end-of-life care and support in Lincolnshire.

“Our commitment to providing care and services within the Spalding area remains unchanged and the clinic teams at St Barnabas are still working hard on the front line to give patients and their families high-quality, compassionate care,” said Chris Wheway, chief executive.

“I hope that those who would normally support our cafe will be able to find alternative ways to continue the help that the hospice needs during these difficult times. I’d also like to pay tribute to our staff and volunteers.”
