Spalding Indoor Bowls Club dominate latest list of England triallists with ten picks

Ten top talents from Spalding Indoor Bowls Club have been handed England trials.

Amazingly, Spalding has the highest number of triallists in total of any club in the country.

Jordan Philpott will try to retain his place in the men’s under-25 team, while Ruby Hill and Chelsea Tomlin are hoping to keep their spots in the ladies’ under-25 team.

Rebecca Simpson and Annie Dunham hope to hold onto their positions in the ladies’ senior team and are joined by Chelsea, Ruby and Louise Catchpole who will hope to break into the team.

And, finally, Matt Whyers, Graham Smith and Mathew Orrey will try to retain their places and are joined by Martin Spencer in the men’s senior trial.

Trials take place over weekend December 3 and 4 at Northampton IBC.

  • Spalding IBC have progressed in both the men’s and ladies’ national club knockout competitions.

The ladies edged to a 64-63 win against Charnwood, while the men beat Boston 81-49.

  • Spalding’s friendly bowlers won their latest fixture against March IBC on Sunday.

By the half way stage March were ten shots clear, although Spalding did manage to pull a few shots back over the next few ends, resulting in the scores being level with three ends to play.

But Spalding finished strongly to secure a 74-66 win. The best winning rink was Pat Cox, Gareth Laidler, Jenny Horner and Geoff Craft, who was captain for the day.

The friendly side also beat hosts Boston 124-77 in an earlier match with Jan Sinclair and Maisie Belding captains on the day. The best winning rink was Gareth Laidler, Trish Stafford, Ken Challans and Geoff Craft

  • Spalding progressed to round three of the national inter club mixed competition with an emphatic victory over Peterborough.

The Egham Trophy clash was played on a home and away basis, with Spalding in complete control from the outset to record a 105 shots to 29 scoreline.

Rink scores: G Smith 25-6; M Spencer 32-6; M Orrey 25-10; A Dunham 23-7.

  • Spalding’s mixed county league side enjoyed a convincing 104-82 win over Stamford on home soil. The top winning team was Irene Blackman, Maisie Belding, Mick Jennings and skip Don Churchman, as Spalding secured 15 match points.
