Spalding in month long wait for action

It’s an extended Christmas break for Spalding Rugby Club as for the second successive week they had their scheduled Midlands Three East (North) game cancelled.

After the players and coaches made the long trip to north Nottinghamshire on Saturday, the clash at Ashfield Rugby Club in Kirkby in Ashfield was called off just 10 minutes before kick off with both sides already out on the field.

With the weather considerably worsening, the referee decided to postpone the fixture.

It follows Spalding being given a walk over win the previous week after Tupton conceded the fixture.

After last playing on December 1, they won’t now play until January 5 when they’re scheduled to host second placed Belper.

Spalding are currently fifth in the table, level on points with fourth placed Ashfield who are ahead by virtue of having more wins.

It’s six wins out of 11 so far this season for Spalding who have games in hand on those above and who are just eight points behind second placed Belper and one point off the top three.

Only the top two have scored more points than Spalding in the division while they also have the fourth best defence in the league, behind the top two again and having conceded four points more than Ashfield.

Spalding begin 2019 with three games against the three sides just above them in the table as they look to climb further up the

Midlands Three East (North) table.
