Spalding Golf Club’s top men given a Belt-ing by hosts Park

Spalding Golf Club’s top men’s team suffered a heavy loss in their latest league match.

There was disappointment for Andy Grimwood and his depleted first team, who suffered a hefty 4.5-1.5 defeat at Belton Park.

The Spalding points came from Grimwood and Miles Foden, with Lloyd Chatham and Chris Moxon halving their game.

The absence of seven regular first teamers didn’t help the Spalding cause.

The second team, meanwhile, won their match against Belton Park.

Also victorious were Stuart Parker and his third team, who pulled off a creditable 4-2 success on the Sandiland links at Sutton on Sea, to compensate for last season’s home whitewash.

The blustery conditions proved to be no dampener to the Spalding team, as wins came for Parker and Andy Rafferty, Alan Jackson and Lewis Wright, and Ian Ford and Greg Wright, with Craig

Lewis and Paul Tudor, and Ron Burke and Keith Williams halving their games.

  • Third team skipper Parker has now put the finishing touches to his Rabbits Open Day and both he and Spalding GC would welcome any visitors who would like to play in this event.

The date is Sunday, August 2 at Spalding’s Surfleet course – and the event is open to any golfer with a current active handicap of between 16 and 28.

The schedule for the day is bacon roll and coffee on arrival, an 18-hole Stableford competition in the morning, followed by a Ploughman’s lunch and 13-hole Stableford competition in the afternoon.

An evening meal follows the conclusion of the completion, with the presentation of prizes – which include tickets to the BMW PGA at Wentworth in 2016.

Cost is £29 to members, £39 to non-members and booking can be made online at www.spaldinggolfclub.co.uk or by calling the club on 01775 680386.
