Spalding Golf Club’s ladies are singing in the rain after Mail on Sunday victory

Spalding Golf Club’s ladies have progressed to the seventh round of the Mail on Sunday competition after beating Kenwick Park in a rain-hit clash.

After a morning of torrential rain at the Surfleet course, it was deemed unplayable.

But the match had to be played, so the green staff – assisted by junior members – set about clearing as much water as possible to enable play to go ahead in the afternoon. Both teams agreed on preferred lies and all bunkers being ground under repair before play began.

Spalding went on to win 4-1, with Lois Williamson prevailing 3&2, Mathilde Kedzlie losing 4&1, Angela Roper winning 2&1, Paula Brown victorious 2&1 and Pat West won also taking a 5&4 triumph.

Spalding have now been drawn to play away at Charnwood Forest at the beginning of August.
