Spalding duo Aylward and Booth impress at Stock Car European Championships

Spalding drivers came home in second and third place in the 1300 Stock Car European Championship at King’s Lynn on Saturday.

A South Holland success looked on the cards at one point, but neither Tommy Aylward or Dan Booth could catch wily veteran George Morphey, who scooped his first 1300 Stock Car European title.

Aylward was unlucky not to win the first of the ‘All Comers’ races following the European Championship when he entered the final lap with a good lead – only to see a backmarker decide to seize revenge on him for his antics earlier in the night and absolutely wipe him out.

Booth continued to collect national points as he came home in sixth place.

The F1 Stock Cars saw Donington’s Mark Sargent in action – racing at King’s Lynn as a red top “star graded” driver for the first time.

Sargent looked odds on to do the very difficult feat of winning a race from red when he battled his way from the back to hit the front in the consolation, only to then get a puncture which saw him have to retire.

Racing returns to King’s Lynn this Monday when the Big Van Bangers, 2L Non Mondeo Bangers, Micro Bangers and 2L Stock Cars are all in action.

The local drivers who will be in action on Bank Holiday Monday include Lee Ivatt in the Big Van Bangers, Simon Goodale in the 2L Non Mondeo Bangers, Jon Cullen in the Micro Bangers and Simon Venni and Rob Heanes in the 2L Stock Cars.
