Spalding Civic Society AGM to take place tomorrow

Historic places manager for Lincolnshire County Council will be the guest speaker at the AGM of Spalding and District Civic Society tomorrow (Tuesday, March 23).

Ian will be giving a visual presentation entitled “Heritage, historic character and place making” as part of the Zoom meeting going live at 7.30pm.

He’s worked for the county council, as an inspector of ancient monuments at Historic England and as an archaeologist in Lincoln as well as with other aspects of historic preservation in the USA.

Ian is also chairman of the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

John Bland, chair of the society said: “Our AGM offers an opportunity to hear about the activities of the society over the last 12 months and discuss future plans.

“It also affords an opportunity for people to step forward and be part of our committee.

“We have a number of roles that we would like to fill. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the conservation of nature and/or the historic environment to be the society’s voice on local conservation matters.

“We are also looking to expand our planning team who review and comment on planning applications in the conservation area and elsewhere in the Spalding area.”

“Whilst we have always offered a natural home for anyone who is passionate about local heritage and history, we would very much welcome anyone who is new (or not so new) to Spalding and have ideas that could benefit the town.”

Membership of the society costs £8 per year, or £12 for two people in the same household.

The society also offers free membership to those in full time education.
