Spalding business park with hotel, pub and conference centre granted planning permission

A major new development in Spalding – labelled Lincs Gateway Business Park – has been granted outline planning permission.

The plan includes a Premier Inn hotel, Brewer’s Fayre pub, restaurant/cafe, conference and function centre and fuel station.

About 2,000 jobs would be supported with Ashley King Developments’ scheme, which will be on land either side of Barrier Bank, next to the A16 roundabout.

Permission in principle was granted by South Holland District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday, but a number of extra conditions will be worked upon.
These are expected to address several concerns by committee members, including the amenity of residents in neighbouring Fen End Lane, CCTV coverage, cycling provision and a safe crossing.

Coun Howard Johnson, the district council’s portfolio holder for economic development, moved the officers’ recommendation to grant permission.
He backed the plan as a boost for employment and an improvement for the site, adding: “The proposed business park would be pretty well used and the hotel would be welcomed.”

Members voted 11-1 in favour of the plan, with only Long Sutton ward member Coun David Wilkinson against.
