South Lincs and Border League cricket: Moulton Harrox power to cracking cup win

A strong showing with bat and ball saw Moulton Harrox beat Graves Park by four runs in a South Lincs and Border League cup cracker on Saturday.

Half-centuries from Joe Broomfield (57) and Andy Goodley (62 not out) steered Moulton to 229-5 from 40 overs at Harrox Field, while Jack Barnett (34) and Lance Bettinson (25) also scored well.

In reply, Maxwell Cusack (4-56) and Barnett (4-46) took four wickets apiece to dismiss Park for 225 in 38.1 overs.

Will Naylor (1-51) and Bettinson (1-15) also chipped in with big wickets late in the game.

Elsewhere, A fine 69-ball 74 from Chris Dring and figures of 5-35 from Chris Klompas couldn’t stop Spalding Town 2nd losing to Sleaford 2nd by 114 runs on Saturday.

The comprehensive reverse is Town’s first setback in South Lincs and Border League Premier Division this season.

Spalding won the toss and inserted hosts Sleaford into bat, but they filled their boots and smashed 251-7 from their 45 overs.

Number three Paul Roberts led the charge with an excellent 85, which included 13 fours.

Opener Dring hit a cracking ten fours and a six in his half-century, but only Cameron Roy (18) managed double figures in support as Town slumped to 137 all out in reply.

Roberts rounded off a fine all-round show for Sleaford with 6-20.

In Division One, Long Sutton remain top of the table after opponents Skegness 2nd conceded their scheduled clash.

It’s now three wins from as many games for Phil Barnes’ side.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck’s Division Two opener at Heckington saw them suffer a 128-run defeat.

Having lost the toss, Pinchbeck did at least pick up five bowling points for dismissing their hosts for 190 in 43.3overs.

Nick Crook (3-50), James Langford (2-46), Andrew Beeston (2-26), Danny Jackson (2-25) and Tom Moxon (1-28) were their wicket-takers, while David Curran (46) was Heckington’s top scorer.

In reply, only skipper Jackson (19) managed double figures with the bat as Pinchbeck were bowled out for 62 in 22.5 overs.

They host Grantham 4th this Saturday (1pm), while Spalding 3rd host Long Sutton 2nd in the same division (also 1pm).
