South Holland jobless figure is ‘steady’

The number of people unemployed and claiming Jobseekers Allowance in South Holland remained steady in April.
Just 1.8 per cent of the working age population of the district were out of work, meaning just 753 claiming the unemployment benefit.
The figure is down from 1,089 claimants in April 2014.
The number of jobseekers across Lincolnshire continues to fall – down by 31 per cent compared to this time last year and is the lowest total for April since 2008.
In terms of youth unemployment, in April there were 2,070 claimants aged 16 to 24 in the county, a decrease of 300 claimants on March.

The decrease in youth claimants has been disproportionately large this month and has decreased more in Lincolnshire than nationally.

The decrease has also led to the lowest youth claimant total in Lincolnshire since December 2004. However, claimants aged 16 to 24 still account for 27 per cent of all claimants which is above the national average of 22 per cent.
