Snooker round-up: Swinburn stars as Long Sutton see off table-toppers Pyramid

The top three teams in Spalding and District Snooker League Division One are separated by just one point after an exciting night of action on Thursday.

Leaders Pyramid D were stopped in their tracks by third-placed rivals Long Sutton A, who edged them out 4-2 in the game of the week.

A 38 break from Sean Swinburn (O49) helped him defeat Pete Jackson (scr) in the final frame to settle that contest.

Sutton are level on points with Tulips B, who enjoyed a 5-1 success over Holbeach D, in joint second place.

Sitting pretty in fourth place are Bourne SC A, who romped to a 6-0 win at Holbeach A. Star man Mark Gray (O105) made an impressive 80 break and a 22 clearance in that one as Bourne moved to within three points of the summit with a game in hand on all three sides above them.

Level on points with them are Services A, who enjoyed a 4-2 win of their own at Pyramid A.

A 29 break from Mike Knight (O21) and a 22 clearance from Vince Fitter (O28) steered the Spalding side to an impressive victory.

At the other end of the table, all eyes were on the basement battle between Boundary A and Boundary B.

Both of the Deepings sides are a little adrift of the rest, but a 4-2 success for Boundary B over the club’s ‘A’ side – which included a 20 break from Dan Smith (O7) – move them within six points of the pack above.

Meanwhile, Spencer Dawkins (O56) starred with a 45 break as his Pyramid F side defeated Consti B 4-2.

Team-mates Jason Green (O63) and Tony Curry (O21) also chipped in with scores of 23 and 24 respectively.

In Division Two, leaders Consti F suffered a rare defeat as they were toppled 5-1 by a resurgent Long Sutton B.

Wins for Susan Lefley (R14), Derek Beba (O7), Alan Fleet (O21) and David Lefley (scr) gave Sutton only their third win of the season.

Consti are now just one point ahead of Boundary C, who beat basement side Crowland A 5-1. Breaks of 38 and 34 respectively from Mick Walker (O28) and Shaun Ketteringham (O14) were the highlights for the Deepings side.

Three points further back are Donington A, who were 4-2 winners at Consti H.

Tony Scully (O35) pocketed a 24 break for the victors, while Mark German (O21) made a 20 for Consti.

Some way back in fourth are Tulips C, who were 4-2 winners at Whittlesey C.

In Division Three, leaders Bourne SC B made it ten wins from 11 with a 4-2 home victory over Consti C.

They are, however, just three points clear of Consti I after they raced to a 6-0 success at Services D.

Pete Stokes (R7), John Bellerby (R7), David Twelves (scr), Stewart Wells (R21) and Jonathan Smith (R14) were all on winning form.

They are now ahead of Pyramid B, who lost ground after going down 4-2 at Consti A. Nick Savic (O56) shone with a 32 break for Consti in that clash.

Elsewhere, basement side Gosberton B enjoyed a 4-2 success at Donington D thanks to black ball wins from Jack Craft (scr) and Warren Driver (R21), plus Simon Slingler’s (R7) success.
