Long Sutton A kept themselves firmly in the race for the Spalding and District Snooker League Division One title by beating rivals and former table-toppers Pyramid D 4-2.
In what was the biggest game of Thursday night’s round of action, Derek Beba’s (O7) final frame win over Dennis Pearson (O7) proved key for Sutton as they moved to within four points of the top.
Lee Davies (O14) made a 22 break in defeat for Pyramid, who are two points off the pace in second.
Leading the way are Services A, who got the better of Pyramid A 4-2.
Chris Dunmore (O21) settled that clash in the penultimate frame, while Mike Knight (O21) chipped in with a 22 clearance.
Tulips A are third after a 4-2 home reverse against Holbeach C, who had Damo Lewis (R14) making a 23 break.
Away from the race for the title Donington C’s Dan Burt (O42) made a big 34 break to steer his side to a 4-2 win over Services C.
Mark Woodberry (O63) also hit a 27 clearance as Tulips B lost 4-2 at Holbeach D.
In Division Two, leaders Consti F suffered a 4-2 loss at home to Holbeach E but remain six points clear.
Second-placed Donington A picked up a 4-2 win over Consti H to close the gap, with Tony Scully (O28) clinching the victory in the final frame.
Boundary C are now third after they lost 4-2 at Crowland A, despite Mick Walker’s (O35) 27 break.
Michael Pearl’s (O28) 35 break was the best in the division, but his Holbeach E side went down 4-2 at Sutton Bridge.
In Division Three, a stellar showing from Lester Gaunt (O42) put Pyramid B firmly in the title picture.
He made breaks of 42 and 32, as well as a 42 clearance as the Bourne boys beat Consti A 4-2 to go level at the summit.
Pyramid E were the big winners of the week as they whitewashed hosts Gosberton D 6-0 to take maximum points.
- The Spalding and District Snooker and Billiards League has moved to suspend all fixtures and postpone its finals weekend due to the coronavirus crisis.
They hope to complete the season at some point, but are putting the safety of their members first.
Committee member Tony Scully said: “The remaining snooker league matches will be postponed until further notice. It is hoped that these can be played at some point, subject to a positive change in circumstances in relation to the health risks associated with the coronavirus.
“The finals weekend, which was scheduled for the weekend of March 27-29, has been postponed. The annual dinner and dance scheduled for Friday May 15 is under review, a decision will be made regarding this at a later date having consulted with those involved.
“As a league, our priority has to be towards the health and well-being of our members, their families and all who work at and frequent our associated clubs. Wishing you all well at this difficult time.”
