Snooker round-up: Six points cover top tier’s leading seven sides in Spalding and District League

It’s incredibly tight at the top of Spalding and District Snooker League Division One as just six points separate the top seven following Thursday night’s round of fixtures.

At the top end, Bourne SC A and Consti B are just two points behind leaders Pyramid D after both bagged wins away from home.

Oliver Player (O28) made breaks of 23 and 21 for the Bourne boys as they won impressively 5-1 at Tulips A.

Consti B, meanwhile, picked up a 4-2 success at Pyramid A as Martin Fear (O7) sealed the success in the penultimate frame.

Tulips B are now fourth after losing ground in their 4-2 defeat at Donington C.

Neil Favell (O14) made a 20 break for the hosts, who clinched their win in the final frame thanks to Mat Turner (O21).

That allowed Holbeach D to move level on points with the Spalding side following their 4-2 triumph at Pyramid F. A 22 clearance from Richard Skellett (O14) was in vain for the hosts in that one.

Elsewhere in the top tier, Mark Gregory’s (O21) 25 clearance and 24 break couldn’t stop his Holbeach C side from losing 4-2 at home against Services A.

In Division Two, leaders Consti F remain three points clear following their 4-2 victory at Gosberton A.

Justyn Stanley’s (R14) final frame win over Geoff Wand (R14) was key in that one.

Second-placed Donington A were also 4-2 winners on the road as they edged out Whittlesey C.

A 31 break from Tony Scully (O35) in the decisive fifth frame helped the title hopefuls to the lion’s share of the spoils.

The big winners of the week in the second tier were Consti H, who roared to a maximum 6-0 victory over Donington B. Seb Grimston (O21) starred with a 37 break in the whitewash, while Olly Turner (O21) made a 29 break.

There were also a few decent breaks as Holbeach E picked of Pyramid C 5-1 to stay in the top five.

Ben Harding (O21) and Stuart Sullivan (O14) both reeled off 24 breaks, while Lee Pickett (O21) added a 21 clearance for on-song Holbeach.

In Division Three, leaders Pyramid B slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Services D – but remain one point clear.

Fine breaks of 38 and 30 from Lester Gaunt (O35), plus a 22 clearance from team-mate Phil Cooke (R7), weren’t enough for the Bourne side as Tanya Peel’s (scr) final frame success over Adam Gibbs (R14) proved decisive.

Second-placed Consti I took full advantage of that slip by beating Whittlesey B 5-1. Black ball victories from David Twelves (scr) and Pete Stokes (R7) helped steer the Spalding side to glory.

Meanwhile, Gosberton C enjoyed a handsome 5-1 triumph over Consti J despite a handy 26 break from Nick Keeble (O35).

There was also a 32 break from Nick Savic (O56) as Consti A defeated Gosberton B 4-2, while Pat Taylor (R21) made a 24 break in Donington D’s 5-1 win over Consti D.
