Snooker round-up: Pyramid D cash in on Boundary A’s slip-up in Division Two

The Division Two title race in Spalding and District Snooker League took a twist on Thursday night as long-term leaders Boundary A were beaten 5-1 at home by Crowland A.

Wins from Crowland’s Ian Smith (O7), Paul Cook (scr), Nigel Burton (O21) and Simon Parker (O7) stunned the Deepings side, with the latter making a 26 break.

That defeat leaves the leaders just one point clear of Pyramid D at the summit, albeit with a game in hand.

The Bourne side piled on the pressure by thrashing Holbeach B 6-0 on home soil.

A 30 break from the in-form James Sharpe (O42) and a 25 clearance from Lee Davies (O21) helped Pyramid propel themselves into the title picture.

Fellow high-fliers Consti G were unable to capitalise on the leaders’ slip, though.

They went down 5-1 at Boundary C, thanks to frame victories from Dougie Lythgoe (O14), Mick Walker (O28), Daz King (O14) and Wayne Cunnington (R28).

Also in the second tier, a 30 clearance from Seb Grimston (O21) helped Consti H edge out Consti B 4-2, while Tim Nash (O28) pocketed a 24 break in Services B’s 5-1 success over Long Sutton B.

Up in Division One, Holbeach A are now eight points clear of the rest following their 5-1 success over Tulips B.

Behind them, Pyramid B lost further ground after slipping up 5-1 at home against Consti F. A 22 break from Spencer Dawkins (O56) was all the title hopefuls had to shout about, with Warren Peel (scr), Robert Adams (O14), Justyn Stanley (R14) and Martyn Stanley (R21) all victorious for the Spalding side.

There was better news for Bourne SC A, who knocked off Pyramid A 4-2 in a derby showdown.

Mark Gray (O105) lit up that all-Bourne affair with a 58 break, but it was Michael Byrne’s (R7) frame win that clinched the victory.

Another player on-song in the top flight was Sean Swinburn (O49). He bagged breaks of 35 and 23 for Long Sutton A as they dispatched Tulips A 4-2 and moved further away from the foot.

There was also a cool 30 break from Tony Scully (O35), but his Donington A side were seen off 5-1 at home by Holbeach D, for who Donald Monk (R7) managed breaks of 25 and 24.

In Division Three, leaders Donington B saw their advantage cut to five points after going down 5-1 at home to Services D. Two frame wins from Karen Howlett (R21), plus victories from Mike Small (R7) and Mark Howlett (O7), gave Services the points.

Long Sutton C are now second following their 5-1 triumph over Consti D. Alan Fleet (O21) starred with a 21 break in that one.

Elsewhere, Andy Skutela’s (R14) 26 break couldn’t stop Whittlesey B losing 4-2 at home to Consti J.
