Snooker round-up: Classy Crowland C keep impressive start going

Crowland C continued their sensational start to the Spalding and District Snooker League season with a fifth win from as many games on Thursday night.

They bagged a 4-2 victory at Bourne SC B having been 2-1 down with two frames to go, with Jim Howe (O35) and Paul Spicer (R7) winning their frames to turn the game on its head.

Howe’s frame triumph included a 21 break and was clinched on the final black.

The win leaves them five points clear of Consti D, who themselves were 5-1 winners at Gosberton C with Martin Perkins (O21) pocketing breaks of 21 and 20.

Consti C are also going great guns in third place, having made it three wins from as many games.

Donington D were their latest victims, with a final frame victory from Stuart Gravil (O14) securing them a 4-2 win in a tight tussle.

Elsewhere in the basement division, Gosberton B grabbed their second win of the season by defeating Services B 5-1, while Consti J saw off Pyramid F by the same score.

In Division One, unbeaten leaders Bourne SC A continue to set a blistering pace at the top.

Even without star man Mark Gray, they saw off hosts Donington C 4-2 to make it five wins from as many games.

Oliver Player (O21) sank a 26 break as the leaders extended their advantage to seven points.

Second-placed Services E suffered their first defeat of the season as they came up against a Mark Woodberry-inspired Tulips B.

Woodberry (O56) made an amazing 75 break – the best eligible effort so far this season – to help Tulips secure a 5-1 triumph.

That result has allowed Holbeach D to join Services E on 17 points.

They defeated Boundary B 4-2, with Ian Woodberry (07) edging past Brian Addy (R7) in the final frame.

Also on 17 points are Holbeach C, who dispatched hosts Consti B 4-2. Dan Ashton (scr) made a 25 clearance in that one.

Hot on their heels are Holbeach A. They beat Consti F 5-1 in a game that saw Jem Merrison (O35) pocket breaks of 35 and 22.

At the other end of the table, Tulips A are the only top tier side still seeking a first win of the season.

They went down 4-2 at Boundary A, with a black-ball win from Andy Mowforth (O7) proving vital.

It’s still a two-way tie at the top of Division Two after the leading pair securing maximum 6-0 success.

Services C whitewashed Holbeach B with Shane Cummins (O7) reeling off a 31 break, while Boundary C took six points from their game against Consti H.

Shaun Ketteringham’s (O14) 25 clearance clinched the maximum win for the Deepings side.

Third-placed Donington A, meanwhile, are three points off the pace after a 5-1 victory at Gosberton A.

There was also a 4-2 win for Donington B at Services, despite Oliver Turner’s (O14) fine 33 break.

The score was 4-2 as Long Sutton B beat hosts Pyramid C, too, with a 22 break from Glenn Ryan (O7) helping them on their way.
