Two of Division One’s top three clashed in the Spalding and District Snooker League on Thursday – and it was leaders Pyramid D who had a night to remember.
Bouncing back from defeat the previous week, Pyramid raced to a 5-1 victory over third-placed rivals Bourne SC A to move three points clear at the top of the table.
Marcus Hamilton (O35) starred with a 39 break as he defeated cue ace Mark Gray (O105), while team-mates Paul Blackbourn (R14), Dennis Pearson (O7) and Pete Jackson (scr) also won.
The defeat sees BSC A drop to fifth, with Services A leapfrogging up to second after their 4-2 triumph over Consti B.
Chris Dunmore (O21) starred for them with a 22 clearance to win a black ball frame, but it was Martin Spencer’s (O21) victory in the decisive frame that sealed Services’ success.
Third now belongs to Tulips A, who waltzed to a 5-1 home win over Holbeach D.
A 22 clearance from Brett Maddison (O7) was the highlight in that one.
Tulips B, however, slip to fourth after losing 4-2 at Holbeach A.
Zac Rowlett’s (O14) 26 break was the home highlight, while Mick Ayres Jnr (R7) won the clinching frame.
Away from the title race, Donington C enjoyed a 4-2 win over struggling Boundary B to move clear of the relegation battle.
A 36 break from Dan Burt (O42) and Neil Reynolds’ (O49) 22 clearance helped see Donington home, while Ben Wrigglesworth’s (O21) final frame triumph was key.
There was also a much-needed 4-2 win for basement side Boundary A as they got the better of Pyramid F.
Stewart Lilley’s (scr) win in the final frame earned the Deeping side just their fourth win of the season.
Elsewhere, a 25 clearance from David Lewis (R14) couldn’t help Holbeach C to glory as they lost 4-2 at home against Services C.
In Division Two, the top two both lost but remain some way clear of the chasing pack.
It was Sutton Bridge who slayed leaders Consti F in a game that showcased the best break of the week.
After seeing team-mates Carl Parnell (O28) and Wayne Howard (O21) bag breaks of 28 and 32 respectively, Phil Goodman (O35) reeled off a 51 break en-route to winning the final frame to earn Bridge a fine 4-2 victory.
They stay three points better off than second-placed Boundary C, who also went down 4-2 at Holbeach E.
Amy Woodcock (R28) secured the all-important final frame for the hosts to clinch the lion’s share of the points for her side.
Tulips C moved to within five points of second place by defeating Crowland A 4-2 as James Glover (R14) sank a cool 20 break.
But fourth-placed Holbeach B slipped up 4-2 ay Whittlesey C and are two points further back.
In Division Three, Donington A were on sensational form with a 6-0 win over club mates Donington B. Nigel Brasier (O21), Jean Thompson (R28), Kev Hawes (O7), John George (scr) and Tony Scully (O28) all contributed frame victories.
Pyramid E were also on-song with a 5-1 win over Donington D as Adrian Sharpe (O14) bagged a 24 break, while Consti D beat friendly foes Consti I by the same score.
Whittlesey A picked up a 5-1 triumph too, with Steve Jennings (O28) making breaks of 31 and 20 in their win at Services D.
