Table-topping Long Sutton beat South Holland rivals Moulton Harrox by six wickets to stay clear at the top – and also progress to the last four of the SLBL Cup.
With more than just South Lincs and Border League Division One points up for grabs, Sutton won the toss at Harrox Field and inserted the hosts into bat.
It was slow going for Moulton, but they stuck to their task and posted a modest 162-8 from their 45 overs. Opener Mike Kearns Snr (57) top scored with a typical knock, while skipper Matt
Barnett (23), Andy Goodley (24) and Will Naylor (19) all added valuable runs.
Once again it was Rob Simpson (4-40) who starred with the ball for Sutton, with Dan Oldfield (1-33), Barry Stanway (1-31), Matt Bull (1-34) and Steven Milnes (1-15) also in the wickets.
In reply, Sutton took their time knocking off the runs.
Openers Adam Wright (34) and Phil Barnes (30) gave the innings a solid platform, while number three Oldfield (45 not out) took over where they left off.
Jamie Taylor (14) and Raj Sangha (18 not out) also made solid contributions as Sutton closed on 166-4 in the 42nd over, taking 17 match points in the process.
Joe Lyon (2-25), Naylor (1-41) and John Barnett (1-22) took the Harrox wickets.
- A solid all-round display helped Pinchbeck beat Freiston 2nd by 86 runs in South Lincs and Border League Division Two on Sunday.
Skipper Danny Jackson (50) and number three Lee Smith (45) shone with the bat as Pinchbeck, forced to bat first, made 203-8 from their 45 overs.
Nick Crook then took 4-28 as Freiston were bowled out for 117, with Jamie Frost (2-22), Mike Knights (1-13), James Langford (1-33) and Jackson (1-12) all getting wickets.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Long Sutton 2nd (108) only picked up two points as Graves Park (111-2) beat them by eight wickets.
Spalding 3rd, meanwhile, were handed a 48-run defeat by hosts Grantham 4th.
Sebastian Newton’s 98 fired Grantham to 215-6, despite Amelia Gardner (2-41) and Tom Decamps (2-35) taking two wickets apiece.
Keith De-Keyzer (33) and Gardner (28) top scored in reply, but Spalding could only manage 167-7.
- The South Lincs and Border League Premier Division derby spoils went to Boston 2nd on Saturday as Spalding Town 2nd suffered an eight-wicket defeat.
Batting first, Town’s second string were bowled out for just 114 at the Mayflower.
Jamie Juckes (30), Ethan Lawrence (22) and skipper Matt Gill (22) all scored well for Spalding, but they found Boston bowlers Damian Lawson (3-38), Ben Troops (3-20) and Michael Troops (2-32) too hot to handle.
Jon Manton (1-28) and Matt Sharpe (1-22) got rid of Will Tetther (4) and Matt Hood (8) as Spalding set about securing an unlikely win, but Ben Troops (31 not out) and Mahir Yousuff (48 not out) shared an unbeaten stand of 79 to steer the hosts home.
