Donington’s Christian Slater has seen his plans turn into reality after being accepted for the Isle of the Man Manx Grand Prix.
This will be the third season in succession that ‘Bomber’ will compete alongside 90 other racers in the senior race on September 2.
His application was successful after more than 400 amateur motorcycle racers from around the world submitted bids for a place.
The committee within the Manx Motor Cycle Club made their selection based Slater’s experience as an amateur, his commitment to the Festival of Motor Cycling over the last two years, the bike presentation and his result last year.
To assist his performance Classic TT Racer Paul Owen will be supplying some mentoring during the practice.
With more than 260 corners in one circuit and travelling in excess of 150 miles per hour in places, any inside information will be much appreciated to ensure Slater learns as much as possible leading up to the big race.
There will also be other mountain course racers available during the two weeks in August and early September who will be willing to give a helping hand.
Slater said: “The CS Racing team are very proud to be racing on the Isle of Man for a third year in succession.
“The respect given during the festival is second to none and the atmosphere is so friendly.”
All of Slater’s 2015 and 2016 race results have been forwarded on to the Auto Cycle Union to obtain his mountain course road race licence.
Slater has produced some fourth and fifth place results at both Cadwell Park and Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough during 2016 which helped gain his licence.
He has raced both his 2013 Honda Fireblade and the 2014 Kawasaki 600cc machines at both venues. The Kawasaki is now prepared for the visit to the Isle of Man.
During the Spring and leading up to the Manx Grand Prix, Slater is keeping racing fit by attending different motor cross venues around East Anglia on a 450cc crosser.
This type of motorcycling assists with throttle control, balance and reflexes.
During the Spring period of racing and testing this year, Slater has managed to stay on the two machines which helps with his confidence.
This confidence came through at a recent meeting at Scarborough when Slater recorded his fastest personal 600cc lap time on the Manx Kawasaki.
There is only one more planned testing session prior to the visit to the Island.
Slater will be taking his Honda Fireblade to Donington Park where it is hoped he will be able to obtain some average laps times of around 100 miles per hour.
The circuit at Donington is a flowing one with very fast corner speeds which Slater needs to experience in readiness for his 37.74 mile laps in the middle of the Irish Sea.
