Simple FC’s deadly dozen delivers early promotion to top flight

Simple FC secured an instant return to the top tier on The Spalding and South Holland Voice 6 a-side league on Monday night as they clinched promotion a week earlier than expected.

Their 12-0 thumping of bottom-placed Hardly Athletic was the final game of the night at Surfleet’s Glen Park – and was as one-sided as expected.

Carlos Costa was doing his best leading the line for Hardly and did perform well, but the well-oiled and effective machine of Simple, including man-of-the-match (MOTM) Pat Issitt, was too much for them to handle.

Simple now focus on winning the division, starting next week against The TBME.

Earlier in the night, Division One got under way with a walkover as Pro Ballers were handed a 5-0 win over the unavailable Notinmymums Forest, who had work commitments.

Old Boy Coaches then secured what could be a vital point as they look to starve off relegation. They were impressive in a 2-2 draw with a You’ve Got No Fans.

Star man Guy Mantle picked up another MOTM award for YGNF, but will be disappointed not to have been on the winning team.

Posh Old Boys, meanwhile, are staring down the barrel of relegation after another heavy defeat. This time Pinchbeck United put them to the sword with a massive 6-1 victory.

The next game saw Bowlcut Wanderers FC left shell-shocked and stunned by a 15-0 defeat against Brennans Sports.

Daniel Bergin scored eight of the 15 goals to secure MOTM in this game.

Champions Polishborough are just three games away from an unbeaten season after they beat The Future FC 4-1, with Krzysiek Goldyn picking up his fifth MOTM of the season for the Poles.

Division One’s final game saw Univeg Team and Mirror Signal Malouda provide the most entertaining top tier tussle of the evening. Univeg continued their good form with a tight 1-0 win.

Elsewhere, Division Two kicked off with BK’s Athletic beating Tekkerslovakia 2-0 in a tight game. Luke Russon made the difference with a MOTM showing.

Goaldiggers and The TBME then played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in game two.

Jake Farrell was again in form with another MOTM prize, which – incredibly – is his seventh of the season.

He now sits level with Ash Graham from Sarah’s Boys at the peak of the Division Two player of the season table.

Other than leaders Simple FC, Le Saux Solid Crew were the only other team in the top half of the table to record a victory on a surprise-filled evening of action.

They beat promotion favourites Evolution 5-3 in a goal-fest. Jordan Graham was on fire again for the Le Saux boys with another MOTM performance.

Third-placed Sarah’s Boys missed out on the chance to grab a promotion spot after losing 2-0 to the obstinate Dynamo Kiev. Macauley Grimwood was MOTM in this one.

Mail Carters against Balotellitubbies was the big-billed game of the night in Division Two, with both sides sitting in the bottom three.

Carters took the bragging rights with an impressive 5-2 win. Luke Forknall was MOTM.

TEAM FOCUS: Balotellitubbies

Since suffering relegation from the top tier last season, Balotellitubbies have struggled to find any real momentum in Division Two.

Following Monday’s defeat they now sit just one spot off rock-bottom and will be disappointed with how the season has played out.

Having won three and drawn one you’d be forgiven for thinking they should aspire to a mid-table position, but inconsistency, particularly in the second half of the season, has seem them drop like a stone. They possess a range of skilled players. Michael Cope wouldn’t be out-of-place in a top tier team as a lone striker, Andrew Sculthorpe has a genius first-touch and the introduction of play-maker Kerren Hackney has further boosted the Tubbies talent.

Captain David Taylor said: “Of course we’re disappointed with how this season has played out. We struggled every game last season and relegation was a certainty, but we’d hoped to at least compete this time around.

“We have some good players so it’s becoming increasingly frustrating that we cannot find the results. We’ll keep plugging away though and hopefully have more luck next season. We have a solid squad so it’s surely only a matter of time before we find the winning formula.”
