Simple FC are Division Two champions after Evolution stumble again

Simple FC followed up on last week’s promotion by securing the Division Two title in The Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League.

A hard-fought win against The TBME, coupled with and other results going in their favour, saw them seal top spot in the second tier at Surfleet’s Glen Park on Monday night.

Division Two got under way with Sarah’s Boys earning a 3-1 win over Mail Carters. That, coupled with another defeat for Evolution, sees them sit joint second (third only to goal difference) as the promotion race really begins to heat up.

This was slightly nervy, but generally comfortable win, thanks to the man-of-the-match (MOTM) showing from Cameron Walker.

Then came Simple FC’s champagne moment, as they saw off TBME 2-0. Dom Mason kept ace hitman Jake Farrell in his pocket and was given the nod as MOTM.

The next game saw Balotellitubbies’ front-man Michael Cope run riot as his side beat the whipping boys Hardly Athletic 10-2. It was Rob Green who was given MOTM, though.

Dynamo Kiev beat BK’s Athletic 4-1 to confirm BK’s spot in Division Two next season.

The game was Kiev’s from the start as they controlled the middle of the park, with Macauley Grimwood again named MOTM.

Meanwhile, Tekkerslovakia secured the most eyebrow-raising result of the night as they beat Le Saux Solid Crew 1-0 – a result that leaves the latter needing favours to earn a promotion place.

Jamie Wroniak was MOTM in this game.

Division Two’s final game saw Goaldiggers announce themselves into the promotion race with a tight 1-0 win against Evolution. A second straight defeat Evolution sees them stay second – but with a tough run-in.

Up in Division One, Polishborough made it 20 games unbeaten – but the champions were pushed to their limit in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Pro Ballers. The title-winners needed two second-half goals to maintain their unbeaten record in a game that saw Louis Steadman named MOTM.

Mirror Signal Malouda then beat The Future FC 5-2 in a much-needed win as they look to stave off relegation.

Reece Snade picked up a rare MOTM for MSM.

The next game saw Univeg Team run riot against Posh Old Boys in an 8-1 win.

Dawid Iwaniec was MOTM for Univeg, while Posh now look dead certs for the drop.

Elsewhere, Pinchbeck United edged past Old Boy Coaches 1-0, thanks massively to MOTM goalkeeper Jason Clow.

Notinmymums Forest then beat Brennans Sports 4-1 in a game fraught with niggly fouls and a physical, over-aggressive feel.

Brendon Taylor did enough to secure another MOTM prize as Forest climb up to sixth.

The final top tier tie saw Bowlcut Wanderers FC continue their poor start to life in the league as their relegation was confirmed after losing 10-2 against You’ve Got No Fans.

Bowlcut can now focus on building a regular squad and gaining some momentum going into division two next season.

TEAM FOCUS: PINCHBECK UNITED

It’s been a season of mixed fortune for the Pinchbeck lads in their inaugural campaign.

They entered the league with hopes of challenging for the title but it soon became apparent that the level of opposition was higher than they anticipated. Indeed, it took them eight weeks to pick up their first win.

Since that win they’ve found their feet and with a regular squad have started to surprise a few. It’s never an easy match when facing Pinchbeck.

Their organised and prepared line-up means nobody runs riot against them – with the exception of champions Polishborough. When Jonny Butler and Anthony Corrigan are on point, they can turn over anyone and will always provide a stubborn challenge.

Captain Jordan Clow said: “Honestly, we thought we’d find it easier than we have. We entered the league probably underestimating the strength of the opposition.

“We all play together in 11 a-side and thought that would be enough. It certainly helps but the league is a challenge and one which we’ve enjoyed.

“We’re going to finish mid-table and that’s OK. We can build for next season. We’ve already proved that we can turn over the big teams so if we can avoid losing to those around us then we have a chance next season.

“It’s a clean slate and a chance to go again and maybe see what happens. We love the league. It’s well organised and competitive. We’ll be back next season and challenging for the title!”
