Signing spree for Pinchbeck United but long-serving Odgen departs

Pinchbeck United have moved to complete three new signings – and soften the blow of losing long-serving midfielder Liam Ogden.

The Knights have swooped for 17-year-old French talent Delphin Esteves and ex-Mansfield Town ace Lewis Croucher, as well as re-signing defender Ben Lawrence.

They join in the same week winger Ogden informed player/boss Ian Dunn that he couldn’t commit to the Knights for another season.

Dunn, who – along with Esteves and Lee Beeson – scored in Friday’s 3-0 friendly win over Wyberton, is happy with his signings.

He said: “It’s a shame to lose Liam, but he said that he couldn’t commit – so we have to move on.

“In Delphin, we have somebody who is very good and the ball and technically sound. He’s been with Boston United’s youth side and looks the part.

“We know all about Ben after his time with our junior sides and the time was right to bring him back. He’ll be very useful in defence and midfield.

“As for Lewis, he’s obviously had a good start with Mansfield and he’s shown that in the time he’s been with us.”

Dunn is hoping to persuade key midfielder Andrew Tidswell to re-sign with the club, too.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck were edged out 2-1 at Grantham Town in their latest friendly on Tuesday night. Jack Smith got their goal at The Meeres.

That clash saw the Knights play defender Jason Field, who is set to join from Boston Town.

Dunn added: “Just to be involved in this kind of friendly shows how far we’ve come as a club over recent years.

“To be asked to play against Grantham is an achievement in itself.”

The Knights visit another higher graded side, Wisbech Town, on Saturday (3pm).
