Shed help put up umbrellas

Members of the Long Sutton Men’s Shed have played a key part in brightening a town centre using umbrellas.

The group was commissioned to create three ‘umbrella balls’ that have been put up in Wisbech.
It was part of that town’s annual Rose Fair put on by the Market Place, Creative People and Places in partnership with the town council and the Horsefair Shopping Centre.
Members of the shed, particularly Trevor Sturgess and Ian Cannon worked with 120 local artists in designing and creating the balls that were put up in the town centre.
They followed a design created by American artist Char Maiorana, researching how he made his creations by watching You Tube videos at the shed in Long Sutton.
A spokesman for the Men’s Shed, said: “This initiative has successfully built important connections for the three innovative Umbrella Balls that were displayed in Wisbech recently.
“Comments received for these Umbrella Balls included “absolutely gorgeous” and ‘an excellent project to work on’.
“This was one of the most unusual, exciting and rewarding community projects for the Long Sutton Men’s Shed.
“We were so pleased to work in partnership with the local community.”
