Seven-up Holbeach United ease into quarter-finals of county cup as Ford fires four

Ominous Holbeach United Sunday cruised into the last eight of the Lincs FA Sunday Cup with a crushing 7-0 win at Metheringham.

Joint player/boss Josh Ford led by example with four of the goals, while a Jonny Allen double and a header from defender Jonny Clay rounded off the rout.

The Tigers have made no secret of their desire to win the county competition – and on this kind of form, few would now bet against them.

Joining them in the quarter finals (so far) are Rustons United, Gatehouse, FC Genes, Ruston Sports and The Notts FC. The other last 16 games between Greenbank and Chancel and Scothern United and Bassingham Bugle Horn have yet to be played.

  • While Holbeach Sunday were in cup action, Sutton Bridge Sunday set about leapfrogging them at the top of the Spalding Sunday League table.

They hammered third-placed Swineshead Institute 8-1 at Memorial Park as ace goal-getter Matt Eaton helped himself to four more goals.

Jake Lally (2), Jack Murley and Jason Rauch also netted to give Bridge a seventh win from eight games and a three-point lead at the top, albeit having played two games more.

It was a day of big wins, with Mulberry thumping basement boys South Holland United 7-1 and Pinchbeck United Sunday easing to a 7-0 victory at ten-man Spalding Wanderers, who had Jordan Clow sent off.
