Second Spalding B&M store set to create 60 jobs

A second B&M store in Spalding is opening next month and will create 60 new jobs for the area.

The new store is taking over the former Homebase site on Westlode Street which closed last month.

It will be a home store and garden centre and is due to open for trading on Saturday, September 22.

“We are feeling really positive about the creation of even more jobs for local people and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store,” said a company spokesman.

The Winsover Road branch already employs 26 members of staff.

The new store will carry a range of products including chilled and frozen food along with DIY, decorating, pet supplies and a furniture section.

The news comes just days after a new B&M store opened in Wisbech, creating 50 jobs on the Cromwell Retail Park.

The new store in Spalding joins others in Boston and March which offer the garden centre and home store.

“We are really excited to get the doors open and welcome our new customers through the door in a few weeks,” added the spokesman.

Vacancies range from cleaners to sales assistants and floor managers.

The company has 570 high street and out of town stores around the country and last year it bought Heron Foods, so it will have three outlets in Spalding when the new store opens.

It was founded in 1978 and was listed on the London Stock Exchange three years ago.

The group also owns JA Woll in Germany, an 80-store discount chain.
