Scout’s campsite makeover

A long neglected Spalding campsite is getting a new lease of life thanks to the efforts of the South Holland Scout Association.

On Saturday, August 4, Scout Association members and friends and family started a big clean-up at Pecks Drove Campsite.

The campsite is used by around 350 Scout Association members in South Holland and the group hopes its use can be extended to other youth organisations – but work needs doings first.

The old toilet and shower block has been transformed but will eventually need replacing to update the provisions on offer.

The extension and upgrade of the perimeter fence is also high on the priority list, and the group hopes to make good headway for the start of the Scout season in February.

A spokesman said: “The District Team would like to thank volunteers’ efforts and the visiting councillors Angela

Newton and Jane King who gave us support and advice regarding funding to allow us to move forward with our ideas.”

To keep track of progress, visit the association on Facebook or www.southhollandscouts.org

To volunteer, call district commissioner Lorraine Derrick on 07912 873815 or campsite warden Roy Snell on 07954 419057.

The group’s AGM is at Pecks Drove on Saturday, September 18 at 10am.
