Mark Scourfield enjoyed a winning treble across two different series’ at Welland Yacht Club on Sunday.
Some nine boats contested the first race of the day, which was the opening round of the Pursuit Series.
In this kind of race, the slowest boats get away first and the fastest last – with the theory being that at the end of the race every boat should be roughly in the same place.
The race was set for 60 minutes, with the Comet of Gail Follington first away (6.50mins), then the Graduate of Neal Tack and Rebecca Slator 1.50mins later, followed 50secs later by the three Laser Radials of Katie Follington, Alan Cox and Richard Stedman.
Next off, 20secs later, was the Solo of Mark Scourfield, then 40secs after that the Streaker of Clive Herd, then a minute later the OK of Andy Agar, then finally the Phantom of Gerri van Haren exactly 9mins after the Comet.
The final order was: 1st Scourfield; 2nd Cox; 3rd Herd; 4th Katie Follington; 5th Gail Follington; 6th Tack/Slator; 7th van Haren; 8th Agar; 9th Stedman.
The next two races were races five and six in the Munson Cup Series. With nine boats starting round five, first across the finishing line was van Haren, followed by Scourfield, Herd, Cox, Agar, Katie Follington, Tack and Slator, Gail Follington and Stedman.
Once handicaps applied the top three were Scourfield, Cox and Herd.
Only three boats contested race six, with Scourfield on winning form again. He was followed by Herd and Tack/Slator on the water and after handicap.
