Pupils in South Holland have helped contribute to the best A-Level results for several years.
Nationally, results improved on previous years being the highest since 2019.
Spalding Grammar School said 77 per cent of entries were awarded A* to C grades, and 52 per cent A* to B.
In some subjects all students achieved the A*-C standard including art, where 40 per cent secured an A* grade and history, where all candidates secured at least a B grade.
Outgoing head Mr Stephen Wilkinson praised results being 10 per cent higher than predicted.
“The vast majority of students were able to take up their chosen university courses, or take the next step in their chosen career path,” he said. “I am pleased that we are able to send two students off, one each to the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, to study mathematics.
“I am grateful to all the staff for their hard work in helping students achieve these successes, and to the students for putting in the effort and showing the commitment to their studies.
“Let us not forget that, although exam concessions for COVID have ended, the education of this cohort of students was impacted by the pandemic.
“We have had some students who have had to overcome real personal adversity to achieve what they have achieved.
“As I bow out, I take pride in not only the academic success of students leaving the school, but also how they have developed as young people.”
Spalding High School head Mrs Michele Anderson described their pupils’ results as ‘amazing’.
“More than 300 qualifications were taken by the Sixth Form this summer, with more than three quarters being at A* to C grades and our students’ results are testament to their commitment and hard work alongside the support of their parents and carers and the dedication of our experienced staff,” she said.
Some of the top performers were:
- Olivia Derewonko who achieved five grades A* and is going to take a gap year and then applying to university.
- Synnove Dallas who achieved four A Levels at grades A* – B who is planning to study Biochemistry.
- Natalia Hulley who achieved four A Levels at grades A* – B who is planning to study Natural Sciences.
- Fatema Jaffer who achieved three A Levels at grades A/ A who is planning to study Optometry.
- Krzysztof Palonka (four grades A – B) who is planning to study Economics.
- Emilia Topka, (three grades A* to A) who is planning to study Business Management and Marketing.
- Afra Hossain who is planning to study Computer Science.
- Jess Smith (four A/A grades) who is planning to study Human, Social and Political Sciences.
- Evie Booth (four A/A grades) who is planning to take a gap year and then go to university.
- Jasmine Maladi (three grades A* – B) who is planning to study Acting and Musical Theatre.
- Misha Rajesh (three grades A* to A) who is planning to study Medicine and Surgery.
- Ella Allmond (three A-C grades) who is planning to study Environmental Science. Lara Bollebakker (three A-B grades) and is planning to study Biology.
- Sienna Fisher (three A-B grades) and is planning to study Psychology with Child Development
- Kira Harvey (four A-B grades) and is planning to work as a trainee paralegal.
Sakina-Zahra Kurji (three A-B grades) and is planning to study Architecture. - Hannah Mukama (three A-B grades) and is planning to study English Literature and Creative Writing
- Finley Preen (three A-B grades) and is planning to study Classics and the Ancient World.
Additionally, Spalding Grammar and Spalding High School continue to co-teach subjects at A Level, and again this year, in English Literature, German, Latin and Music, students have achieved significant success, with 83 per cent of entries graded A* to C.
Boston College, which has a campus in Spalding, said in a statement it had ‘an impressive number of students securing the highest grades of A*, A and B.
They included Grace Crane (pictured left) from Spalding who achieved A, B and B in English Literature, Film Studies and Media Studies.
“I am beyond happy with my results, I was working towards a B in English Literature, but my lecturer gave me the belief I needed to achieve an A,” she said. “I chose Boston College because of the wide choice of A Level subjects available, and learning about the huge variety of careers they could lead to really inspired me to pursue a career in filmmaking.
“I hadn’t even considered the Film and Media Industry before coming to Boston College, and I am excited to have secured a place at MetFilm School in London to study Practical Film Making.”
Head of Sixth Form at University Academy Holbeach Gemma Evans said all pupils that wanted to go to university had received the necessary grades and they had a 100 per cent pass rate in BTEC results.
“We should like to congratulate all our learners on their excellent achievements,” she said. “We are very proud of their efforts and achievements and for the hard work that they have sustained
during their studies and work placements.
“There have been some excellent performances amongst individual pupils with A* and A grades achieved across several subject areas.
“We are delighted by the strong results of our first cohort of T-Level leaners who have combined their
learning with industry placements in Health and Science, Digital, Business Management and Science.
“They have paved the way for this new qualification and have been ambassadors for the school.
“We look forward to welcoming our new cohorts to the qualification which now includes Childcare, Construction and the Built Environment, Electrical and Pipework.
“We wish all our learners well for the many exciting opportunities and experiences that lie ahead as they embark on new pathways in employment, higher apprenticeships and university.”
