Saturday football: Nuttell sends Pinchbeck United top of the UCL, Holbeach United beaten at much-fancied Rugby

A late Jordan Nuttell goal sent Pinchbeck United to the top of the Future Lions UCL Premier Division table on Saturday, while Holbeach United were soundly beaten at title favourites Rugby Town.

Starting with the Knights, they maintained their unbeaten start to life in the UCL’s top tier with a 1-0 victory at Cogenhoe United.

Striker Nuttell netted the only goal – his first since joining from Boston Town in the summer – ten minutes from time to settle the Compton Park clash.

Reaching the summit continues Pinchbeck’s incredible rise over the past two years, having won UCL Division One at the first time of asking last year following their promotion from the ChromaSport Peterborough League.

It was a tougher day for Holbeach, who went down 2-0 at Rugby Town.

Richard Blythe bagged both goals for the hosts, who also had Stefan Blake sent off for a late tackle.

The defeat leaves Seb Hayes’ Tigers eighth in the early UCL Premier Division standings.

Down in the PDFL Premier Division, Moulton Harrox made it eight wins from as many matches with a 3-2 victory at Peterborough Polonia.

Fourth-placed Holbeach United Reserves went down 3-0 at home to champions Netherton United, while Long Sutton registered their first away win of the season by beating hosts Ketton 3-2.

Tydd picked up a 2-0 triumph at home to Langtoft United too, but Sutton Bridge United were beaten 2-1 at home by Peterborough Sports Development.
